Graphic Design stems from the need for marketing and mainly uses digital programs. Graphic Design includes everything from movie posters, magazines, billboards, commercial graphics, book covers, logos, web design, font design and product packaging. Below are the three most commonly used digital programs to create art.

Illustrator is used for text design and flat graphics. It uses VECTOR images which means the image is created by connecting the points along the outside a shape- artwork can be scaled down AND up without loosing quality. Adobe InDesign
InDesign is used for mass amounts of text- like books and magazine. It is designed to easily organize and design a large amount of words for easy reading. It also sets up documents for book style printing.

Program Alternatives
Adobe programs can be VERY expensive if you don't get paid to do it for a living. Alternatives to Vector programs include: Affinity Designer and CorelDraw. Alternatives to pixel/painting programs include: MyPaint and Sketchbook Pro.
